*I've been thinking about the Biafran war lately...no idea why.I keep thinking about what they must have gone through, how much they all must have suffered, and all for what??
So here I am,40 years on, trying to put myself in their shoes...I'm sure I barely brushed the tip of the iceberg.

So much sorrow…
Too much of it,
So much sadness,
Unstoppable tears,
Motherless children,
Fatherless ones,
Widows, widowers,
Child-less folks,
Everyone is hurt.
But today,
In the midst of it all,
We smile through our tears,
We sing through our sorrow,
We laugh through the despair
Gripping our hearts,
There’s a ray of hope,
A silver lining,
We hold each other,
Cos love’s all we have left,
The sun shines brighter,
The clouds look cheerier,
The birds sing louder,
The trees dance better,
They sway to the wind.
The world just looks…
More peaceful,
More beautiful,
Our broken hearts
Are beginning to heal,
We are taking a step forward,
As a country, as a family,
All who died during the war,
Will not die in vain,
They died for a better tomorrow.
We will make them proud,
Biafra will live forever.

Okaay, I love it, but pardon my ignorance, I never really understood the concept of the Biafra :/
Me too oh. I dont understand the Biafran War but I like the poem sha. Pain in the beginning, joyt at the end, Nicely done!
@moyo perv alert, just kidding.
Lmaoo @juanita
Ah abeg o. My pervness on Temi is very different from normal perv-ness.
@Neefemi: thank you, and yayy you are first :)
@yosola what kind of pervness ehn?? lol i love you jare, thanks dear
@juanita thanks dear...you should google the biafran war, you and yosola...
Nicely written!!
biafra was the idea of really greedy igbo people(read:ojukwu(who hid in a bunker sleeping with people's wives and let innocent people die for his selfish reasons and then proceeded to fly out of the country when they were being beaten).
this poem was well written but for some weird reason i have never felt sorry for the biafran people and i still dont...ive always hated it when people even mentioned the possibility of it...and im igbo.
brilliant writing, i think. sadly other nations have chosen not to learn from Nigeria's experience, but to experience their own Biafras in different ways.
This is so well written, starts out sad and ends on a high note. Liked that.
@Leggy, Everyone has their opinion on Biafra but to use the actions of a leader to judge a whole people and their experiences during a war is highly untenable. You need more information I think.
WOw damn I and leggy be agreeing a lot these days..
But as usual she's on point, that war was a stupid war to fight and yes greed led us into that war.. Am sorry to say, I will never support the Biafran war but I certainly will not oppose remembering those who died fighting such a useless war..
am sorry to say, they honestly did die in vain.
@leggy and Azazel..... I disagree...ojukwu's mistake is ojukwu's mistake and not the mistake of the whole Igbo nation.
There is a whole lot more information on the Biafran war that you might not know (judging from your comment)
also...... don't believe everything u see on the internet...... because most times its wrong info.....most of the articles i have seen about Biafra and the war...are untrue or under/over exaggerated.
oh and cerebrally...
nicely written!
@ shorty: aww thanks dear
@leggy: really, just because their leader was selfish and cruel doesnt mean they didnt go through hell during the war
@Nana yaw: it's very sad, really.
@Myne: THANK YOU!
@Azazel: it's ok not to support it, i dont either, i was just trying to imagine all the trouble they went through, and it the end, it was in vain.
oh iphy i just saw ur comment!
thanks a lot!
Come Temi which kind picture be that now?? lmao
Nicely written, but i don't agree that things might have been better if Nigeria had split...oh well i guess we'll never know would we??
LOL @azazel...
nicely written!
i will not say more than that before
i get attacked!
We live and learn from the past...or something along those lines.
Nice thoughts.
well what can i say,i do agree a lil with both parties in that ojukwu was fighting cos of greed and personal interest but still that war was a milestone in the lifes of many, some died ,some survived to become different individual blah blah ectera you get my point and yeah i helps not to say too much bout some you know little about so ill just shut up now
nice one CB
